In China dumpling (汤团),made of glutinous rice flour ( having meat or sesame powder and sugar inside it in general) and cooked in boiling water usually ,is a food to be eaten in celebration of the Lantern Festival( 元宵节,the night of the 15th of the 1st lunar month).So it was called yuanxiao (元宵)originally.Afterwards it went by the name of dumpling (汤团) for avoiding as taboo of yuanshikai (袁、元are homophonic)who was arch usurper of state power in the early days of the Republic of China.
