Another chance at understanding: The incredible story of Øyvind "Wind" Aamot
A man gazes out the window of a train speeding through the Chinese countryside before dozing off. When he awakens, he can't remember where or who he is.
Although the above scenario might seem like a movie plot, it's exactly what happened to Øyvind "Wind" Aamot in 2001.
Aamot is 35 years old, but remembers nothing of the first 27 because of acute memory loss he suffered while traveling in China. Doctors later diagnosed him with a form of retrograde amnesia, in which the brain undergoes what in simple terms could be compared to erasing the hard drive of a computer.
