Hong Kong and Guangzhou are commercial cities, but the air is not the most clean not because of industries but because of car pollution from 7 million people each. Crime rate in both cities are much lower than most western countries.

Hong Kong is sub-divided into three islands (more like an occupying area) namely Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, and New Territories. Kowloon is pretty congested but most of the shopping sites are in the area. Hong Kong Island are more spacious and somehow cleaner.

When it comes to shopping for brands, Hong Kong should be cheaper because this city does not impose import duty and sales tax on apparel. Hong Kong is also easier to go around because much of the directions and signs have English equivalents too. as it used to be a British Colony, not so with Guangzhou. There are plenty of 3 star hotels all over Hong Kong, you can go to below website to find all the information you need to plan your trip: http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/trip/

In Hong Kong there is only one outlet shopping mall with discounted merchandise of individual labels, it's the Citygate which is 5 minutes away from the Hong Kong airport. Then there are small outlet stores that sell all sorts of brands and labels at much reduced prices but the quality is very low, some defected. They are mostly concentrated in Wanchai District on Johnston Road from beginning to the end and extend into the first part of Wanchai Road.

However, Hong Kong is a very expensive place for most products, So you can also go to Guangzhou, much cheaper, don't be shy ask the locals, if you can speak little Chinese, Maybe learn the language on asking "where's the mall" that should be easy to remember. if you looking for garment, pls view below garment wholesale markets in Guangzhou. http://uguide.org/wholesale-markets.asp?b=2&city=, you will find genuine labels like gucci, prada, carters, Levi, diesel, ralph lauren, pringle etc at reduced prices. Enjoy the trip.
