Hello. My wife and I are traveling for 2 weeks across China. One of the sights we plan to see is the Yellow Mountains. Of course as China is such a beautiful place with so much to see there is limited time to spend in each place. I have read some of the forum posts on suggested routes on the mountains but I cannot seem to find anything which suggests something that you can do in 1 day, without staying on the mountain.

I must mention that we are traveling by sleeper train from Suzhou and will stay at Huangshan International Hotel (Tunxi) 30 April and check out 2 May.

The cost of staying on the mountain on 1 May was ridiculous and we will not spend that money.

So we thought we could explore the mountain as day trips based at the Huangshan International Hotel. I realize that we will only see a small part of the mountain but it should be better than nothing.

Can anyone suggest some routes or sights we can see in the time we have and considering that we will not be staying on the mountain. I was hoping we could walk up a route and take the cable car back each time.

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

GUEST17126 First Tunxi is quite far from the mountain, but I guess you are aware of that. The best scenery is ON the mountain, not walking up/down. The walk up is thousands of stairs and you don't really see that much (it is under the trees). It takes at least two hours, but you need to be fit otherwise you will be completely exhausted when you arrive. On the top of the mountain there are kilometers of paths and stairs and this is really beautiful. I recommend taking the cable car up and walk around all day, then cable car down (I think the last one is at five). You will probably have had enough of walking by that time. If you really want to see everything it is better to do it in two days, although it is a bit expensive as you need two entrance fees and 4 cable car rides. But to me it was worth it and this is how we did it as my husband is not very fit, and we preferred to enjoy the marvelous scenery on top. It is a fantastic place so do take your time.

From Hangzhou to Huangshan? There are buses from Hangzhou to both Huanhshan City and Huangshan Scenic area. You couls aslo stay at Huangshan city(tunxi) or the scenic area. But it will be expensive to stay overnight on the mountain. If you willarrive late at Huangshan, it's better to stay overnight in the downtown and head for the mountain the next morning.
