Marrying a Chinese?
Feb 6, 2011 10:20
guestJK Boys and girls,

me and my gf in China are about to get married. Yes, I'm as foreign as it gets. I read the topic on the marriage procedure, but I really need to know one very important thing. Do I get a PR in China if I marry a Chinese national? Or, if not, what DO I get in the case of a marriage?

Any useful information or links would be very appreciated.

Yours truly,

JK

JK, you will not be entitled to Permanent residency.
You may apply however for a Family reunion visa which is in the ‘L’ category.
Depending on the province this can be for up to 12 months, but it does not allow you to legally work.
Hope this helps.

GUESTJK So, does that mean that if we get married,- she inevitably gets my EU residence and I get pretty much nothing?

JK, China does not have an immigration program; they don’t need one.
Once your GF becomes your wife and jumps through all of the hoops and cuts her way through all of the red tape, then yes, she will be entitled to all of the benefits of an EU passport holder.
Comparatively speaking you receive nothing in return.

GUESTJK Thanks! That's useful to know, even though it's quite disappointing.
