January 7 on Chinese lunar calendar is a special day for the locals in Shandong Province. On this day, the locals scatter rice and candies in the corners of their house to send them gifts to the mice because the mice marry off their daughters on January 7.

Except the gifts, the locals set off firecrackers to celebrate the occasion. When the night falls, the families turn off all the lights and sit silently in their house, avoiding bothering the mice. They expect to live peacefully with the mice so that they can have a good harvest next year.

In some other places, people also celebrate this special occasion though it might fall on different days.
