Hello!
I am currently enrolled as a university student and have a valid student visa. The term began this Monday and will last until July.

I was offered a job yesterday and the company wants to sponsor my working visa. They know that I am a student on a student visa and that I do want to finish the course. They have no objections.

I need to have the following questions answered asap, as I should sign the contract this weekend! But of course don't want to do it without proper knowledge.

Can the student visa be changed into a working visa during the semester?
Is it advisable to do this?
Do I have to leave the country for the working visa?
For how long is the working visa valid?
Is it a visa with multiple entries?
Can I still continue at the university?
Can I enroll for the next semester as well, while still on the working visa and working?

Have I asked all the necessary questions or have I overlooked something?

Any help is highly appreciated and I want to thank you all for taking the time and answering!

First, visas can never be changed. You can apply for a new one and will get processed like any other. The new visa always cancels the old visa and you would not be entitled to study.

It is not realistic to get a work visa for the vacation period. You can read up on work visas in this site ....it is complex and answer your questions, but anyway the bottom line is it's not the appropriate way to go.

The information I obtained a few years ago is that a student can work with the permission of the university. In practice, I believe quite a few students work without permission.

So stick with your student visa as long as you are studying. While you do that check out whether the employer really can get you a work visa.....there are many rules and they must be accredited and the job must be one which needs a foreign expert.

GUEST28165 I'm presuming this isn't an undergrad/postgrad course - but a language course that you're studying. If this is the case, of course you can still study during your free time. As I understand it though, visas usually can't be changed - a trip to HK is probably in order here.
