We are travelling with kids this mid July to early August for 3 weeks. We would like to cover Beijing, Xian, Yellow Mountain and hopefully Yangtze river.

First question is:
1. Is Yellow Mountain okey for kids to climb? we heard also that there is a cable car? how many days should we stay here? are there any exciting places to see here?

2. We would like to explore the yangtze river, but everything we come across the net is by very expensive cruises, any suggestions to do it on a budget?

3. Lastly, is it best to do Beijing- Shanghai or the other way around?

1. Yes, there are two cable lines you could take to climb the mountain. You'd better take it if ther is a kid in the tour. I think two days are enough to tour the mountain, you could stay one night in one of the hotels on the mountain. There are many interesting places on the mountain, among which the most famous are strange pines, fantastic rocks, the sea of clouds and hot springs.
2. I don't know the budget Yangtze River cruise. The cruise ship on the Yangtze River are usually good equipped, that's why the cruise is expensive.
3. There is no much difference between Beijing-Shanghai and Shanghai-Beijing. Both are OK. You could have a look of this one: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cruise/regal/tour-ds402b.htm One will fly to Beijing, then go to Xian. After, proceed to Chongqing for the Yangtze Cruise. When the cruise ends in Yichang, you will go to Shanghai, where the tour will end.
