Places to see before they change forever
Mar 10, 2011 00:24
Reuters have chosen 25 places in the world you really should see before they change forever.

No.1 ”Real” Great Wall of China---Simatai Great Wall.

Surprisingly, it is not Badaling Great Wall, which is regarded as an unabashed tourist trap. In contrast, Simatai section retains the original features from the Ming Dynasty.

Additionally, Beijing Hutong Community is also included.

A hutong is a large community of traditional Chinese courtyard homes. Since the end of the last Dynasty, they have been partitioned into smaller plots, so that eight or more families often dwell in one courtyard home. The traditional hutongs are a center of culture and commerce, and a focal point of Beijing’s historical sights.

It seems that people love 'original' things more, like the Simatai Great Wall.

Panic!

I have a huge desire to see all and everything but I have never thought it that way. Before they change forever...

Hurry, hurry! Passport and tooth brush!

Carlos, tooth brush can be bought in the shops or supermarkets. Prepare your passport, pack your clothes and bring your wife to see these places.

Unfortunately, many tourist attractions have been commercialized. My friend who has been to Tibet told me "Go to Tibet as early as you can. I am afraid that the last pure land in China will disappear in 10 years."

Horrible, isn't?

I’m going to Kashgar this summer before the place is completely remodeled and looks like every city.

I visited Badaling Great Wall and Hutongs. There were a lot of people when I was on Badaling Great Wall. Very crowded. Hutong is very interesting. We hired a rickshaw and the driver told us some stories about Hutong. Impressive!

Next time I will visit Jinshanling Great Wall before it changes forever.

Dodger, enjoy your trip and do not forget to share some photos with us.

Cherry, I’ll be driving there with some friends, from Beijing to Kashgar and back. Just over 10,000 km.
One of my co-drivers is a keen photographer, so I do hope that he shares some pics with me which I can share with my friends on this site.

Cherry, it’s only about 5000 km to Kashgar from Beijing.
One of our crew members is a Chinese girl, who can, much to my surprise drive OK.
She is also the designated cook and bottle washer.

Cheers, Dodger.
