People attach more and more interests on the Chinese dragon. Some people from other countries thought that dragon is the unlucky creature. While in China, dragon has many significative senses.

Historically, the dragon was one the 12 China zodiacs from the ancient time on and it was the symbol of the Emperor of China. In the Zhou Dynasty, the 5-clawed dragon was assigned to the Son of Heaven, the 4-clawed dragon to the Zhuhou (seigneur), and the 3-clawed dragon to the Daifu.

In the Qin Dynasty, the 5-clawed dragon was assigned to represent the Emperor while the 4-clawed and 3-clawed dragons were assigned to the commoners. The dragon in the Qin Dynasty appeared on national flags.

The First dragon appeared to the mythical emperor Fu-hsi, and filled the hole in the sky made by the monster Kung. Its waking, sleeping and breathing determined day and night, season and weather.

There are many differences between the classical dragon and the Chinese dragon; these include the ability to fly even without wings, shape-shifting abilities, and of course the general benevolent behavior to the populace.

In ancient China the dragon interacted with humans and brought them great gifts of enlightenment and knowledge. The yellow dragon brought the gift of writing to the Emperor Fu Shi. Their prevalence can be noted by their inclusion in the Chinese Zodiac along with the rabbit, dog, rooster, boar, ox, horse, tiger, rat, snake, ram, and monkey.

All of these animals are prevalent today except for the tiger and the dragon. While the tiger is endangered, it can still easily be found, but dragons are extremely elusive and rare. The reasons for the dramatic decline of the Oriental and Chinese dragon are quite apparent. The centipede used to be the Eastern Dragon's one known enemy.

The difference between the Chinese dragon of today and the dragon symbolization of the past is that now people do not actually believe that the dragons exist however they are still a symbol that is highly regarded in many Chinese traditions. Thousands of years ago the people did believe that the Chinese dragon existed and that the dragon controlled aspects of their everyday lives.
