GUEST11685 In my last trip to China two years ago I took a high speed train from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. Its super comfortable, very clean, there is even a food cart. The trip lasts about 1 hour. From Guangzhou Train Station I took a taxi to my hotel.

I'd suggest learning to say the words that you will require to say to the driver in Chinese, or Google it, print it and hand it to the taxi driver. He'll gladly take you to where you want to go.

Be sure all taxi drivers start the meter, often they don't and gouge you slightly. Print or learn the necessary words to "Please Start the Meter" But other than that they're fairly honest in either Shenzhen or Guangzhou.

I didn't do any sight seeing per say. I was there visiting friends and they pretty much dictated what I was going to see. We got around by private car, taxi, subway (very clean) and public bus as they were locals they know the ins and outs of getting around town.

Many of the street signs, directions and so forth are bilingual (Chinese-English). The subway system is brand new in Shenzhen, its well maintained and easy to figure it out. The Subway is also bilingual. You may find the odd English speaker, but I wouldn't count on it too much in either city. Airport personnel and Hotel personnel all speak English. Some taxi drivers, especially those at the airport. Bring a phrase book to be safe. Your hotel should be able to help you figure out what to see or the best way to sight-see.

You'll also recognize all of the large US food chains, the menus are a little different from North America but its pretty much the same food.

Downtown Shenzhen is extremely modern and cosmopolitan. Its very well maintained and easy to navigate on foot or by taxi. Avoid Rush hours as much as possible. If you have to cross town then use the subway, or you may find yourself trapped in a cab for very long periods of time.

Guangzhou is a considerably older city. Its not as well kept. There is a higher level of crime similar to NYC in a way. Though Chinese people are very friendly and helpful. It too is a busy city and a little more difficult to navigate than Shenzhen.

I'm returning to Shenzhen before the fall of 2011. I'm looking forward to it, like you can't imagine. I miss Shenzhen so much its all I've talked about in the last two years. Enjoy your visit in both cities. Take it one step at a time, be patient and always have fun.

I found this information from this website

http://www.routeechina.com/shenzhen/best-way-from-shenzhen-airport-to-guangzhou-downtown/

it suggest that to take the bus instead of the train station, being where I will be staying.. just want to confirm is it true?

How often does the bus leave from Shenzhen Fu Yung Bus to Guangzhou? Do I have to book in advance?

Going from Guangzhou to Shenzhen airport

Take the bus to Luo Hu station; there onto Airport via Special Airport bus service..
