This story named as "Mengjiangnv crying over the Great Wall".It was said that in the Qin Dynasty,many people were conscripted to build the Great wall. Mengjiangnv's husband was also seized to build the Great Wall not long after they got married.After her husband was taken away, there was no news of him at all. So Mengjiangnv traveled over thousands of miles to the foot of the Great Wall to look for her husband. She couldn't find her husband, so she stayed by the foot of the Great Wall and cried. Suddenly,a 800-li long section of the Great Wall collapsed,then her husband's body and other millions bodies and bones were exposed. After a careful burial, she committed suicide by jumping over into the sea. At present day,Mengjiangnv Temple was built according to this story,at Fenghuang Mountain outside Shanhai guan Pass. There was another story about bonfires of the Great Wall: It was said that the Emperor Zhouyou of the western Zhou Dynasty.He doted on a concubine named Baosi very much.But Baosi never smiled. In order to make her happy,Emperor Zhouyou lighted bonfires. The dukes and princes thought the capital was in danger,so they sent army to recure,but found that nothing was wrong.This made Baosi burst out laughing. Emperor Zhouyou was very happy when he saw the scene,however the dukes and princes went away angrily. Later, the enemy did come.Emperor Zhouyou lit bonfires to call for help.Suspicious of being duped again,the dukes and princes didn't sent their armies. Under the attack of the enemy,Emperor Zhouyou was killed,Baosi was captured,Western Zhou fell soon after.

Of course,it is just forelore.

That's not ture!

In fact there were four functions of the Great Wall.
The first was its Military function.Since the nomadic tribes lived in the grassland,they were good at riding horses and shooting arrows in battle , but not good at assaulting fortified positions.The Great Wall effectively stopping their attacks.
The second was its Economic function.The Great Wall was like a barrier, which made the hinterland a peaceful environment,so people could live harmoniously and economy could develop.
The third funtion of the Great Wall is that:the Great wall was a link that accelerated the mixing of ethnic groups.
The wall also has the funtion that it protected the "silk-road".

LOKI Points: Join Date: Aug 23, 2009 Status: Offline	Have you ever saw a real dragon? or a jaberwocky? I know dragons would be able to go over the Wall but a jaberwocky is clumsy, and gets disoriented very easily. You are very pretty
