Hi guys I'd like to know how much I'll be at looking at spending on a monthly basis when I move to either of these provinces. How much would the following cost approximately: rent (ie a room in shared accommodation say with 2 others) food (I'll eat like a local) transport (within a major city eg. buses/buying a bike) going out (local Vs foreigner places - price of a beer etc) phone calls home (to the UK - easy to get cheap phone calls?) My next question relates to living with Chinese people. How easy is it to find a place with Chinese students? Are they like many Spanish who live at home while studying and sometimes until they get married? If it is possible to find accommodation with them how would I go about it (say in Kunming or Chengdu) with pretty limited Mandarin? Thanks a bunch

Cheers for the info Diego. My next question is how would I find a flat with Chinese people in Chengdu - do many students choose to live in a house with friends, each with their own room? I don't want to live in university-arranged accomodation because I want to be more independent and have my own space. Where should I begin to look - what is the usual procedure? Hablas español Diego? Si es mas facil me puedes escribir en español y mejor un mensaje privado para no ser mal educado a los otros. Gracias!

sharnrixon, A girlfriend of mine is leasing her brand new 1 bed room appartment in Chengdu, city centre, all furnished. I remember she said something like 1000-1200 per month. I could give you her email address if you are interested. Right now she lives oversees. No habla Espanol.

If u speak chinese there r no problems for renting an house with chinese students, alone or with other students from others countries. All around the university there are many agecies for houses ecc... It' quite easy, actually! But do not forget to advise the University bout it. Take care!
