Changing "L" visa to "Z" visa without leaving china
Jul 25, 2011 04:55
guest61559 Hi...can anyone give me some recent information regarding changing a tourist visa (L) to a working visa (Z) without having to leave China?

I am currently in China on a business visa and it will expire so i will leave china for a short holiday. I will be taking a job when i return but the application for a working visa won't be processed in time. I am hoping to re-enter china on a tourist visa and change it to a working visa once all of the documents have been processed. Is it still possible to do this?

Any info will be greatly appreciated

GUEST83111 Hi, I am in a similar situation. I have a flight booked for china on the 8th of Aug and I am meant to be attending a training camp to complete a TEFL course. Now the organisation through which we have got permission to enter china doesn't look like they are going to send our documents to apply for a Z visa on time. Can I get an L visa and convert it to a Z visa without leaving Mainland China? And can it be done in Beijing?

GUESTVISAGOD If the school or organization you will be working for has the "right connnections" they should be able to get your "resident permit" directly bypassing the "Z" and you should not have to leave the country...a resident permit is what you require to work "legally' in China..I have had it done for me dozens of times

GUESTANDREW If your employer has not provided the Z visa documents to you before you leave your home country, they absolutely are not going to do so once you arrive. I'll say that again, they absolutely are not going to do so once you arrive.

It's true, you can bypass the Z visa and get right to the residence permit, but if they organization "can't get the documents together in time" to issue the stupid form, then they're not going to be able to do that either.

I know, I know, I know, so and so promised you this, that, and the other thing, so you won't believe me...and then when you get here, it's your funeral.

Just remember....if your organization has not provided you with the necessary (and extremely simple) documents before you arrive, they absolutely will not be doing so once you've gotten here. And don't preach about how you have a contract....once you've started working for them (while they are "processing your visa", you've broken the law, and if you take them to court...your illegal employment will get you deported.

GUEST26230 Don't listen to DOOM and GLOOM...a lot of schools bring teachers over on tourist visa's and then do the proper paper work after..usually when time does not allow for doing the paperwork beforehand!
