I am travelling to shenzhen next week to work for a large hotel for training for four weeks and would like to know any safety tips, places to go, shops to visit. Also how expensive things are. Also is there anywhere to buy english newspapers. Also would like to know what visa you must have there, taxi fares.

Hi there,

The taxi ask for RMB 12.5 for the start trip within 3 km, plus RMB 2.4 for each more km.

You can go to Theme Parks in OCT(Oversea Chinese Town), Splendid China, Window of world, and Happy Valley.

Some other places of interest is Lotus Mountain, The world on the sea in Shekou, which many expats dwelled in.

Usually people like to visit Huaqiang Bei Road, and Dongmen Commercial Street for shopping.

You can get English newspaper in Hotel everyday, or you can buy Shenzhen Daily from News Stall, only RMB 1.

The things are not expensive in Shenzhen, but you should bargain with the sales, and also you d better have a Chinese friend to help you.
