Good news! The train ticket refund fee will be adjusted from Sep. 25, down to 5% of the ticket fare. The lowest refund fee is CNY 2 per ticket.

Since 2006, the ministry of the railways has raised the refund fee to 20% of the ticket fare, which ahs been scolded by many passengers. This time, the refund fee finally drops.

Passengers have to refund their tickets before the train leaving in order to get 5% train ticket refund fee.

By the way, the railway station won't charge a fee if you encounter extreme weathers like rainstorm, which causes train delay.

Why not cancel the refund fee? The train tickets can be sold by using a special nationwide network, meaning every station can see if the train is empty or full. You cancel your ticket and the seat is empty. The railway station can sell it to others who take the seat at the next station.
