| There were wonderful programmes on the TV in Changsa. It so happened that we switched on to a channel which was showing a programme of undercover investigators looking into selling jewellery scams, in particular jade and other precious stones. The investigators discovered the same modus operandi during their undercover stint. They found that tourists took cheap tours from a `fly-by-day' travel agency and visited a jewellery shop only to be fleeced of their money by buying fake products. We have been forewarned!!! On the way out of Changsa going to Kunming, we stopped at this jewellery shop. A female shop attendant brought us to a room and introduced us the products the shop was selling. In the midst of it, another attendant came in to say the `boss' has come and wanted to speak to us. The boss came and introduced himself as an architect. He does not know anything about jewellery and advised us against buying anything. Then he showed us some `real' stuff, pearl-strung and other precious stones strung chains which he was not selling. However, to do charity, he asked us to `donate' money through him in exchange for the precious chains. S$900 for the dark blue precious stones neck chain. S$10 for the smaller pearl-strung neck chains. Like a leilong sale in Singapore, the tourists moved in and bought, unsuspecting that this kind of sale was broadcasted the night before. |

| Seen here showing the pearl-strung chain, the boss who looks like a film star, he said so himself, the boss's eloquence moved us all and some ladies took the deep blue chains (seen in other photos) to wear and be photographed. Is this a `scam', I don't know. Perhaps, those who know can give some comments. |
