Work Visa
Nov 25, 2011 11:07
guest47239 I have been searching on how to get a Visa but it looks like an Expert License is needed, which requires a bachelor degree. I didn't graduate but I have 2 years of full-time work experience at an office job - does anyone know if there is a way to work around the fact I don't have a degree? Or would they accept any other diplomas? (I don't have one right now but wondering if I should sign up for a short program if it works)

I also read there is a "Work Permit for Aliens" which may be able to replace the Expert License, but I can't find out how to obtain this...please help!! and thx in advance!!!

GUESTDAVE The "Work Permit for Aliens" can only be obtained with the help of the employee. I think you need to find an employee first and the employee may help you obtain the documents needed for work visa application.

GUEST63211 What kind of work are you looking for? China has no immigration policy because it doesn't need one. There are few skill shortages. About the only skill they need is in language teaching, usually English. To work legally, a company registered to employ foreigners has to offer you a job. If you fit the criteria set by the government you will be offered a job with a Z visa. This allows you to move to China and replace the Z visa with a work and residence permit.

If you are offered a job with no Z visa you will be working illegally and if caught deported with a ban on returning.

Most teaching jobs require you to have;
A Bachelors degree or higher
Teaching certificate (TEFL, TESOL)
Two years teaching experience
Under age 55

Lesser qualifications might be accepted in areas where recruitment is difficult.

GUEST45242 Thanks for the reply Dave. So do you mean that even if I don't have a bachelor degree, the employer can help me obtain the "Work Permit for Aliens", which can be used to get a Visa in place of the Expert License?

You are unlikely to find a job officially...but there are always grey areas in China.

If you go to China as a tourist you could look for a teaching job with a language centre. Quite a few would employ you on that alone, (of course that is not legal) but if they are serious about employing you they might be able to arrange an F visa. Technically you cannot work on that but many of us do or have done. They will need to want to do this as they will need to get the right contacts, and it will work in some areas but not others.
