possible weird tourist visa question

guestuk traveller On the latest version of the chinese visa application, why does the Chinese embassy want to know what countries you have visited in the last 12 months?

i visited sharm el sheikh last january for a winter sun holiday with my g/f. could the chinese possibly refuse my application cause i have visited a country where a dictator was overthrowen / a revolution has taken place? or is this insane paranoia?

im asking this as i have read about people getting refused a chinese visa for all sorts of weird reasons

PS - i was never in trouble whilst in egypt, in fact i didnt even see any revolution taking place at the time!!

thanks in advance for the help

GUEST31188 Use your common sense: if there is a country stamp in your passport, report that you visited that country.

Going to a resort town won't determine your visa application, IMHO.

GUESTLINLIN I think it may be for heath thing. If you have been to a country where communicable disease occurs, the consular officers may ask you to do a pphysical examination before issuing you the visa. Just presonal thinking.

Generally, there are not many refusals. Why are they doing it? Just like most countries, China is trying to protect itself from terrorism, and China being the sort of country it is, is collecting all then data it can - it can be used for many other purposes. Other countries do this: if they want a reason to exclude you and you have not told the whole truth, they have a reason. Can they check? Mostly 'no', but as already stated, you'd be dumb not to declare a country for which you have a stamp in yr passport! I would guess that if you have visited certain countries which they view with less favour, your application might be checked more carefully. Tough, many countries take this approach, targetting where they see the greatest risk.

China is steadily improving its government computer systems all the time and it seems that it is now in a position to collect this data whereas it wasn't before, or else it would have been!!

GUEST92150 So I have visitied only China 4 times (Hong Kong once) in the last 2 years. My wife says I don't need to put down anyt visits past the last 12 months (since the new app says 'recently'). However I worry that omitting the other visits may not go well. Opinions?

GUEST31188 Always answer the questions precisely. If the question asks you to list countries you visited in the last 12 months, put down exactly that information.

And if they ask you how much money you carry, don't tell them you have two millions in the bank.
