I have noticed an interesting thing---all of my foreign friends went to visit the Great Wall. They also told me that their friends were also interested in China Great Wall. I asked my friends whether they just wanted to prove that they were TRUE MEN. They said ‘No’. They just appreciated the marvelous masterpiece made by Chinese people.

Why do you like Great Wall? Do you want to prove that you are a True Man?

PS: Chairman Mao once wrote a poem. It has a sentence ‘He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man’.

The Great Wall is one of the new seven miracles of the world (Internet-election 2007) and one of the Unesco world heritages. Of course it is only natural that if you are visiting around and have an opportunity to climb there, you will.

By the way, perhaps there would have died less people if Qin-dynasty had simply armed those hundreds of thousands chinese and attacked north.
Of course, now we would not have something great to climb on.

GUEST31188 To me, the Great Wall represents China. There are other famous landmarks in China, but the Great Wall is unique - for its size, length, time it took to build and the number of workers involved.

When you climb the endless stairs, stop and look around you realize the magnitude of this world wonder. It's really spectacular. I've seen it from the air as well, thanks to a very considerate pilot on one of the flights. Just breath taking.

Carlos, Emperor Qinshihuang enslaved many civilians to build the Great Wall but he didn't build all the parts of the Great Wall. They emperors of the later dynasties also joined the construction of the Great Wall.

The Great is marvelous. I went back to Beijing last year and visited the Badaling Great Wall.

GUEST31188,

It's great that you love the Great Wall of China. Have you visited other famous landmarks in China, for example, the Terra Cotta Warriors in Xian? They are one of the eight wonders in the world?

When I visit China I combine staying at my wife's hometown (with family) with travelling to new places. This way I enjoy the best of both.
So far I've visited Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Goungzhou, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Nanning. I was impressed in all of these places, but the list of more places to see is long.

Yes, it is difficult to travel in all cities of China. But I think you should go to Xian if you can. Except the Terra Cotta Warriors, there are many other scenic spots and ancient cultural sites.

I've seen a video presentation about Xian, so I have an idea of what to expect. I know that the city of Xian and the province of Shaanxi have to offer more than the Terra Cotta Worriers.

Are you from this part of China?
