According to the ancient Chinese mythology, Nv Wa is a goddess who creates everything on earth. On the first day, she creates the chicken. Then she keeps creating the dog, the pig, the sheep, the ox and the horse on the second, third, forth, fifth and sixth day. On the seventh day, she creases mankind. Thus, the seventh day is taken as the mankind’s birthday.

On the seventh day of January according to Chinese calendar, northern Chinese people eat noodles to celebrate their ‘birthday’. Long noodles represent longevity People eat noodles, hoping they can live as long as they can.

In southern China, people eat ‘seven-treasure’ soup to celebrate their birthday. This soup is made of mustard, leek, celery, garlic and other vegetables.
