visa question regarding arrest record
Jan 31, 2012 15:26
guest64126 My wife and i are planning a trip to Beijing and Shanghai. I was convicted of a crime in the US fifteen years ago. We are applying for a tourist visa and i would like to answer the question no, mostly to avoid the aggravation and embarrassment of having to offer an explanation and the possibility of being rejected. Ive read differing opinions as to whether or not the Chinese embassy checks criminal records here in the US. And also do they even have the ability to check someones criminal record without the express permission of the person in question. I'm leaning towards "no" to the question. Any info based on your own experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Many people chose "No" and got their visa at last. Do not get yourself much trouble.

I used to submit visa applications for clients at the San Francisco China consulate. Although, I never had anyone ask if they should put no or yes on the felony question, I did notice that the consulate agents never paid any attention to that field.

As long as it was filled out, there was rarely any trouble. The real worry is already being in China and someone within their government finds out you lied on the application to get into the country. Cross your fingers...
