Train vs Plane?
Apr 14, 2012 17:01
guest28537 My wife and I are travelling between the following Chinese cities:

Beijing - Xian
Xian - Shanghai
Shanghai - Guilin
Guilin - Hong Kong

If cost was not an issue, which of these trips would you recommend train on and plane on? We want to experience trains in China, but we want to do it on the trip that would afford us a beautiful view of Chinese countryside.

Thanks! Appreciate your help.

Beijing - Xian: Soft sleeper on Z trains. Very fast and comfortable.

Xian-SHanghai: flight.

Shanghai to Guilin: flight.

Guilin to HK: fly to Shenzhen and then pass the luohu border to reach HK. It is cheaper. Or you can take long distance bus to Shenzhen and then pass the Luohu Border.

GUEST28537 Thank you so much! I have looked into this more and have one other question.

We will fly from Guilin either to Shenzen or to Guangzhou. Is it easier to get to HK from Shenzen or Guangzhou? Seems like there is a direct train from Guangzhou. Is there direct access from Shenzen? I know that Shenzen is closer, is it easy to cross the border and take the MTR subway from there?

Thank you so much.

GUEST28537,

Luohu border is always busy. You might have to queue up for a while to pass the border. If you won't waste your time in queuing up, you can fly to Guangzhou, get to Guangzhou East Railway Station and then take direct train to Hung Hom in HK.
