Chinese media reports that 13 kinds of capsules from 9 pharmaceutical companies contain excessive chromium which exceeds the upper limit required by the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.

It is said that some pharmaceutical companies have used industrial gelatin to produce capsules. Compared with edible gelatin, the gelatin for industrial use is made from waste leather materials, which is usually contaminated by chromium.

It was the CCTV who first had found out some pharmaceutical companies used industrial gelatin to produce capsules. The SFDA (State Food and Drug Administration) issued an emergent notice to suspend the selling and consumption of the 13 kinds of drugs packed in capsules which were said to contain excessive chromium.

Last week, a rumor claimed that industrial gelatin was also added into yogurt, jelly and some other kinds of food. As a result, some supermarkets had removed these products from the shelves. Later, the regulator said that it was a rumor.

I strongly suggest that the local supervisors be removed from their posts. The leaders of the pharmaceutical companies should be shot to death.
