Mongolia to Xinjiang

Me and a friend of mine are planning on going to Xinjiang (we are currently in Beijing). But because of our visa we have to leave the country in order to get them extended. So our plan is to go into Mongolia and then back down into Xinjiang. Does anyone know if there are planes, trains that do this?

Or any other options?
