As I mentioned in my previous post, I am planning either to study or live and work in China. If the study plan goes through, that would be in Hangzhou, if not, I would reconsider Hangzhou but also other Chinese cities for living and working, like Beijing, Shanghai and others.

By profession, I am a graduated graphic designer and professional photographer. I also do artistic photography and already have some expos behind me. I also have quite some experience in journalism and customer relations.

The question would be - can yo live from art in China? Is my profession wanted and, if so, how much would it be payed. I know these are some very general questions, but I am looking for a benchmark, just to know what is the salary span which can be expected. Also, which city would be most appropriate for this profession? I don't speak Chinese, though I plan to learn it, but beside English I also speak French and Italian.

GUEST02994 China does not have or need an immigration policy for workers. It is not easy to work in China unless you are invited to work there by a Chinese company or organisation registered to employ foreigners. To get such a job you need a skill which cannot be provided by a Chinese worker. These are few and far between and usually the only skill a foreigner can provide is as a native speaking foreign language teacher. To work legally you need to be provided with a Z visa. No other visa entitles you to earn money. This visa will be exchanged for work and residence permit. You cannot work on an F (business) visa, this is for (none earning) business visitors only. There are ways and means of obtaining visas but they are not legal.
