I have met a Chinese woman, who is in the United States on a work Visa. We have known each other for awhile, and just recently realized, that we really like each other a lot. For the future, I am wondering, if this relationship, goes further, to where we decide to take it a step further, and marry, I am wondering what I or we will have to do. She has been in the U.S. for 5 years now. I am wondering if we would be able to just go somewhere and get married? Or if we would have to do something else before we could do that. I am also wondering about if she would need a green card, before, or after we are married. We have not talked about this together, because I want to find out about what needs to be done by either of us, or both of us, before I approach her about marriage. Has anyone out there been through this before? If anyone can help, I would sure appreciate it.

GUEST17115 Lets assume that both of you want to get married - I would think that she will have to return to China and you will have to apply for a K-1 visa on her behalf. There are a few forms to fill out and the wait is around 8 months. With such a visa she can return to the USA and you will have 100 days to get married. next step will be the application for a green card, to enable her to stay here.
Consult with a lawyer or find a website that deals with these questions. Good luck.
