When and how to book internal flights

We are travelling to China in Sept /Oct and have a rough itinerary from Beijing down to Hong Kong .We wanted to travel by a mix of overnight trains and internal flights.
Are the flights better and cheaper to book when we arrive in China ?Or is it a good idea to book a bit before we arrive online via Ctrip or someone?

GUEST6783 Better book your flights as early as you can if your itinerary was already made. The earlier you book your tickets, the cheaper ticket you will get.
