Beijing southwards to Shanghai - 12 days - where will you suggest ?

I have around 12 days in between Beijing and Shanghai and need help on some suggestions as to where to go in between; my original plan is as follows:

Day 1 - Arrive Pingyao by train from Beijing or Taiyuan
Day 2 - Pingyao,
Day 3 - Taiyuan,
Day 4 - Taiyuan, and overnight train to Kaifeng
Day 5 - Kaifeng
Day 6 - Kaifeng
Day 7 - Kaifeng day train to Nanjing
Day 8 - Nanjing(could be mid-autumn festival night here)
Day 9 - Nanjing(could be Oct 1st here)
Day 10-Yangzhou
Day 11- Wuxi
Day 12 - Arrive Shanghai

I am a Chinese(local transport no problem) and have been to China many times but not these places. I wonder if there are other better options ? Pingyao, Nanjing & Yangzhou are my must-visits. Do I need so many days in Taiyuan, Kaifeng & Nanjing ? Which other places will you think are better to visit along that direction ? How about Guizhou, Jinan or Zhengzhou ?

Is there any websites that show these places in tourism ranking ? I really cannot decide.
