It's hard to say. Remember it is summer vacation now. Some people take this opportunity to travel. Why not ask someone else to book the tickets for you? Some websites offer train ticket booking service.

GUEST12456	Thank you. I must arrive Nanjing on Sept 29 coming from Pingyao to Luoyang to Kaifeng before that. Wonder if these smaller cities rail tickets will be full too ? Will buses be easier ?

It is close to the National Day Holidays (Oct. 1- 7). I am afraid that it will be difficult to buy the tickets. Pingyao, Luoyang and Kaifeng are small cities but they are tourist cities too.

I heard buses of 1 to 3 hours journey don't sell tickets in advance but pay as you board, is it correct ?
