guest37149 My girl just aquired her Visa to travel to the USA to be with me for a year. Her travel agency says the Chinese government requires about $4000 for her travel to show she has sufficient funds for travel. Am I being scammed?

GUEST60241 Because many single women (and men) wish to travel to some countries and not return, immigration departments like to be assured that this is not going to happen. They will look for good reasons for the applicant to return such as:

Owns property
Has a letter from an employer stating the job is help open
Has a child
A significant bank balance (actually $4000 seems quite low)

Maybe US is different to other countries but a 12 month visa seems very generous too.

GUEST69785 Re-reading your message I realised that you said she already has her visa? If money was needed in a bank account US immigration would want to see it not the Chinese government, and this would have been before the visa was granted. It sounds like an agency scam. If it was genuine your gf would put money into her own account and not involve the agency.

I think not only like that, at least USD 6000(RMB 50,000) which should be deposit on her account 3 months before her application.

This is only the balance required, the Embassy will also check her account history, to see whether she's able to afford the trip.
