UCI stripes Armstrong's seven titles of Tour De France!
Oct 22, 2012 21:00
UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) has decided to strip Armstrong’s seven titles of Tour De France and banned him for life from the cycling. According to the president of the UCI, their decision is based on the USADA examination report on Oct. 10. The report includes 26 witnesses’ testimonies, 11 of whom are Armstrong’s teammates. Unfortunately, the testimonies from them are against Armstrong. Hamilton, Armstrong’s former teammate, said Armstrong couldn’t win any title of Tour De France if he didn’t use drugs.

According to the report, Armstrong and his teams used steroids, the blood booster EPO and blood transfusions in order to earn good results in Tour De France. But why did he pass the tests easily?

Once a while, the UCI supported Armstrong when he was accused of using drugs. Why did they change their mind quickly?

PS: Nike, Armstrong’s sponsor, has terminated contract with Armstrong after learning the details of the USADA’s report. Other sponsors like FRS have announced they will not sponsor Armstrong by the end of 2012.

In fact, many cyclists use drugs to earn good results. From 1996 to 2010, there are fifteen champions of Tour De France. CARLOS SASTRE, the champion of 2008 Tour De France, is the only one who hasn't been involved in drug scandal.

Sinc 1957, 12 champions of Tour De France have been involved in drug scandals.

If UCI can't make up its mind to deal with drugs seriously, the world famous Tour De France will become notorious.

UCI is considering whether to get back the prize Armstrong has gained when he earned seven straight champions. IOC also discusses wheter to strip his bronze medal at Sydney Olympics.

Till now, all Armstrong's sponsors have abandoned him.

I think it is unfair to let Armstrong burden all the mistakes. What about UCI? In the Era of Armstrong, many other professional cyclists also used drugs. Did the UCI do good enough to prohibit the illegal drugs? Apparently not. The related officials have to resign too.
