Microsoft announces that MSN will be shut down and in the first quarter of 2013. Meanwhile, Microsoft already figures out that Skype will be highly promoted as the replacement of MSN. MSN users can log in Skype with their accounts and transfer their contacts from MSN to Skype.

In mainland China, MSN was used to be the most popular instant message tool, especially among the white collars. It is the only communication tool for the staff in some foreign invested corps in the past.

Unfortunately, MSN fails in the battle when it competes with QQ and other instant messengers. Currently, QQ is the most frequently used instant chatting tool, taking up the largest market share of instant messenger. Ali Wangwang is the runner-up and Tencent's Weixin is the third.
