Hi!

I have some questions concirning my trip to and through China in august:

1) I? like to take a night train from Beijing to Shanghai. Are these trains often fully booked? Do you think, that, when I buy at the Beijing? train station the ticket 3 or 4 days before departing, I?l get 4 tickets in one
compartment? And what? the price? Is there a different price for tourist? And are the prices which are given on this homepage the prices that I?l have to pay directly at the train station?

2) I have in mind visiting Kazakhstan. There? a train from Urumqi to Almaty, but only two times a week. Is this train often fully booked? And how
much does it cost? How many days before departure can I buy the tickets?

Thank you for helping me!
Best regards from Austria,
Veronika

HI,Veronika!

For the train ticket from Beijing to shanghai, you need buy the ticket at least 3 or 4 days before departing, August is also in the travel season since most students are on vacation, they travel a lot during this period. how many people do u have? if you buy one ticket you can only get one berth in a compartment. For buying tickets, you can either buy it in the ticket booth in the train station or book it at your hotel, most hotel or hostel offer such booking service, you only need pay very low service charge. I think this way is more convenient for you. there is no diffferet price for tourist, but the price differs from each train and the classes of the berth. the hard sleeper is no more than 330 yuan while the soft sleeper will cost you about 500yuan.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thank you for answering my (first) question and for giving me tipps concirning my journey!
We are four people and we? like to be together in one compartment. I hope that? possible.
Do you know a cheap (!) hostel in Beijing? Do you know the "Beijing Feiying Youth Hostel"? (It seems to be pretty cheap!)
Another question: I? like to visit the Great Wall? Which part of it would you recommend?
Does anybody know anything about my 2nd question?
Thank you very much!
