I'm planning to go to Beijing soon, for about 3 weeks. (End of Jan- Feb). Is it safe to go? I've had recently had injections for Hep A and B, and I wont be going to any rural areas in Beijing, if it matters.

Hello GuestGo,
I am a foreigner and I have lived in Beijing almost five years. I think it is completely safe to go to Beijing. I heard about this news but this has not become a widespread problem. If you take standard health precautions I think you will be completely safe. If you have any concerns simply avoid some of the common practices in China, such as sharing food at meals. One nice thing is that due to the SARS problem in the past every public restaurant is required to have a sink/wash basin available for people to wash their hands before eating. Some people wear a mask over their faces, this didn't just begin because of this news but has been continuing since the SARS problem in 2002-03. Have a nice trip, I am sure you will enjoy it.
