Chongqin, Chengdu. help in travel planning!
May 6, 2005 06:13
Hi yall,

I will be China in july travelling with a big group from my school for the first part of my trip, visiting Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan. Thereafter, I'll be on my own for an extra 13 days (starting on july 14th), so I am planning on going to Chengdu, Chongqin and Xi'an, then go back to Shanghai to take my plane back to the Netherlands. I am planning on staying from 3-5 days in each city. Can you please recommend some attractions in the area? some other cities perhaps? I'd like to meet some locals to get around if possible!

About me, I am studying in the Netherlands, getting my MSc, I am from Ecuador, Southamerica. Love travelling. it will be my first time in Asia, very excited about it.

Hear ya

So if your group tour will end in Wuhan, hereunder is my suggestion for your extra 13 days:

Day 1: Take a bus from Wuhan to Yichang to catch a cruise ship to Chongqing. There are also some cruise ship depart from Wuhan, but not worthwhile for the trip between Wuhan to Yichang. Board the ship this night if you can catch the sailing date.

Day 2-5 on cruise ship, enjoy the scene along the Yangtze River.Arrive Chongqing on day 5, then a city tour on the day.

Day 6: Bus tour from Chongqing to Dazu, where you'll enjoy the Dazu Grottoes. Stay overnight in Dazu.

Day 7: Dazu to Mt. Emei. Stay overnight on Mt. Emei.

Day 8:Mt. Emei to Mt. Leshan Giant Buddha. Then bus to Chengdu city.

Day 9: Bus to Wolong Giant Panda Reserve. This is the must for your trip to Chengdu. Back to Chengdu in the afternoon.

Day 10: Flight to Xian. City tour of Big Wilod Goose Pagoda and the Provincial History Museum.

Day 11: Terracotta Warriors Museum and Huaqing Hot Spring, and the City Wall.

Day 12: A free day in Xian to explore the city. Maybe the snacks street, the Great Mosque or just strolling around.

Day 13:Departure.

Thank you Catherine,

You really took your time writing this. Sounds like a good plan, I am reviewing it with a Chinese freind here at the University in the Netherlands... I see you are living in Xi'an now, having fun? I am meeting my freind there too, he told me something about going climbing somehwere during the night, he said it is cool. I was trying to go to Hong Kong during my stay in China, but it seems too far and there is too little time. Wish I could stay longer :-(.... In any case, perhaps I'll see you around in Xi'an if are around during the summer...
Any recommedation or tips during my stay.. I will travel by myself until Xi'an... so perhaps some safety issues to look at would be useful ;-)

Thanks,

Victor

Climbing somewhere during the night? I presume it should be the Mt. Huashan.

Some tips for you:

1.Pre-book the air or train tickets. Since your travel date will be close to the summer vacation of the college students, so if you'll travel by train, tickets will be a problem.

2.As an individual traveler and if speaks very poor Chinese, do bring a phrase book such as the Lonely Planet in case that you want to ask the way.

3.For safty issues, do not go out too late at night, taxi will be much safer than public buses.Anyway, safty in China is not a problem.
