I have been ill with a DVT and my students--6th graders--came to my home for a visit. I was glad to greet them but my home was a mess. I had not cleaned since the DVT onset. I would like to know how does a teacher thank his students for a home visit when the teacher has been ill.

Any replies will be welcomed.

GUESTHEBE Hi, this is a part of Chinese culture actually. We will visit relatives, teachers, workmates and friends when they are ill, bring some flowers and fruits of course. In China, we also have home visit when women have kids. But I don't think you need to thank your students, or just give verbal thanks on class.

GUEST25149 Thank you very much for your response. I was so pleased to see them, however, that I had forgotten my house had not been cleaned and more than anything that is what I wanted them to know that I would have given the "Grand Tour" but to open any doorway was to look upon lack of care. Your words are appreciated. In America, we used to have that tradition also; yet, with the fast pace we normally keep it is sometimes difficult to even know the person who lives next door. That was a very nice thing they did, one that I am just not used to...

Don't worry about this, Chinese students are taught to treat their teachers with respect. They know clearly that you are hospitable even when you are ill. There may be some cultural difference, or to be better, they should learn to make an appointment before visiting.
