| China has united other five nations of the Central Asia to submit an application to the UNESCO in order to make the Silk Road inscribed in the World Heritage List. Just in Shaanxi Province of China, there are 20 sites that wait for being included in the World Heritage List. As one of the 20 sites, Xingjiao Temple has come into the spotlight recently. According to the local government’s plan, some “illegal buildings in the temple” built in the 1990s will be torn down and the monks will move out. In the future, they will live in the new monks’ house built outside of the temple. At the same time, a large local tourism company will cooperate with the local government to build the brand new Xingjiao Temple into a large culture oriented tourist site. It is said that the total investment will be 0.23 billion yuan. Unfortunately, the monks in the Xingjiao Temple have different opinions. They don’t agree to rebuild the temple and request that Xingjiao Temple will withdraw from the Silk Road World Heritage Project. Why? They insisted that those illegal buildings are inseparable parts of the temple so that they shouldn’t be torn down. So far, the local government hasn’t responded to the monks’ plead. It is said that the UNESCO has begun to investigate into this matter. Later, they will give the public the result. Personally, I can’t understand why China is so eager to have more world heritage sites. In order to achieve this goal, many historical or scenic sites have been rebuilt. Is it necessary to do this? |
