Hi Dear Friends
Its so nice to see so many people help each other here
I am from Iran. I am planning to travel to Beijing for 36 days and have bought a ticket for next month. The cost of my stay in hotel is paid by the organization that invited me to China. But the rest of the costs such as western food, transportation, souvenirs and etc are up to me.

I would be really grateful if you help me with some questions:

1) Assuming that I may have 2 hours a day to take a walk outside, how much money do you think is suitable for me to bring to China? (What are the normal daily costs?)

2) Assume that I am planning to buy some nice Chinese souvenirs for my family, what are the cost ranges of famous Chinese souvenirs?

3) I also may want to buy a good laptop computer or video camera, what are the cost ranges of these in China?

4) According to all of the above do you think its more economical for me to bring my money in US Dollars or Chinese Yuan?

GUEST55654 1) It's difficult to say. It depends on where you go and how you spend your money. Many places accept credit cards. I think you may bring a VISA or Mastercard credit cards. It is much more convenient.
2) What are you planning to buy? I have to say that many souvenirs sold at tourist attractions ae either fake or low quality.
3) The laptop costs from 3000 to 15000 RMB. The price is up to its configuration and brand. The video camera costs froun 2000 to 10000 RMB. Its price is up to the brand and quality. In a word, the higher is the price the Better is the quality of the merchandise.
4) I don't think you can bring as much as money as you can. The customs have limits for money they can bring into China. According to the rule, they can bring 5000 USD (cash). If the money total is above 5000 USD, they need to declare to the customs.

GUEST60142 Thanks a lot for your reply.
Well at the time I dont have that much money. I think I can bring only 1000 USD that means I have 27 dollars a day. and I was worried that is it enough or not? for instance whats the price of McDonald Hamburger?
Maybe I'll also bring extra money to buy a good video camera.
But still I dont know how to bring my money? In dollars or in RMB? I mean is there a possibility that in one way the goods cost less?

GUEST55654 GUEST60142,

27 USD is ok for a day's meal. A hamburger costs from 12 to 15 rmb. But I don't think it is enough for you. No matter you carry USD or RMB, you'd better not exceed the limit. If you bring USD, you need to exchange it at Chinese banks. I think it is an "exchange rate" issue. You may compare the exchange rate in your country and China. Then you can make a decision.
