Is it possible to travel by train from China to Ankara, Turkey? I remember reading a couple of years ago that a train had been built along this line but cannot find any details about it.

Never heard about such a train. I just know that there are trains to Moscow, Ulan Bator, Hanoi and Pyongyang.

Yes, I have heard of those as well. In 2010 I read an article about a train that was almost finished...from Istanbul to China. I have heard of it being opened...but was never sure whether it was cargo only or passenger. I am guessing that passenger function would only work if it stopped more frequently..and that cargo function would be more successful with fewer stops.
