Tiny Times knocked the Hollywood blockbuster Man of Steel to ascend the top of the domestic box-office on its opening day. It also breaks the opening day box-office of Chinese 2D films.

Tiny Times tells a story about four college girls, their love affairs, their professional aspirations and their longings for a luxurious life in a company of a good-looking man. Their dream-lovers are not Hollywood muscle-men, but Asian boys of androgynous demeanor with compact frames, exquisite facial contours and the look of perpetual youth.

It sounds like a Chinese version of Sex and City. But they don’t really have a little in common. The four college girls are not like the independent career women in Candace Bushnell's New York. What do they want? A life of luxury and pretty (not handsome) boyfriends.

Are girls only longing for these two things? Chairman Mao once said “Women hold half the sky”. Apparently, girls in this film can’t hold half the sky.
