I know this question is always asked. Travel permit travel permit travel permit. Look I am an american teaching in Xi'an. I want to fly to lhasa for a week but I don't know who flies there from Xi'an. I don't mind flying from Chengdu or even going Xi'an beijing lhasa however. I still can't find the flights. Is there a website I could check out that tells when the flights are? Also, someone said if you fly to lhasa your plane ticket will come with a travel permit is there any truth to this rediculous statement please respond immediately. Thank you

calm down there dude ;) Its no problem, you can fly from many cities to lhasa now. The nearest to you would be Chengdu i think and just go there and find any hostel and they can arrange it all for you. The ticket include a oneway flight, permit for Lhasa(not outside) which you will never see, soo its actually just one of the many ways the Chinese goverment makes money. Most of the times it includes transport to the airport you are flying from, but dont count on it though. I went from Zhongdian in Yunnan and the price was 2500Y, so its proberly about the same from Chengdu, because flights from there leaves every day and not only ones a week. But you might have to spend a few days where you buy you ticket, so they can fix the permit for you. I think i saw that they arranged it at the Int. youth hostel in Xi'an when i was there one week ago, but not sure, so you might wanna go there first.

Why not fly directly from Xian to Lhasa? There are flights between the two in every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, takes off at 13:05 and arrives at 15:45. The plane is Airbus 319.
