Will I need a Chinese transit Visa?

guest44558 Hello, My name is Mike and I am studying Buddhism at a university in Kathmandu Nepal. I will be flying home to SFO for the holidays, and my first flight out of KTM will land me in Guanzhou Baiyun, via China Southern airlines. after a 3 hour layover, I transfer to Shanghai Pudong, again with China Southern. Then after 2 hours, I fly to SFO with China Eastern airlines.

I am writing today to ask those of you who have experience with these airports and travelling in China if I will need to get a Chinese transit visa in this scenario. I am not planning on leaving either airport, but since I have a domestic transfer in Guanzhou and the airline changes from Shanghai to SFO, can anyone tell me whether or not I'll need to go through customs, either to get to the domestic terminal in Guangzhou or to get my bags in Shanghai? This trip wall all booked on one ticket, if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

GUEST8034 Where are you from? You just stop over in these two cities less than 24 hours. So a transit visa isn't required. You just apply for the stay permit when you arrive in Guangzhou and then you can go to Pudong airport easily.

Of course, youneed to clear the customs and then take flight for SFO.
