Those big airports usually have tax free shops where passengers can buy gifts, cosmetics, cigarettes and other products before leaving. After paying the bill, you can claim the tax refund. If everything is ok, you will receive your tax refund cheque posted to you later or cash given to you. Some people will receive their money in their credit card.

Last year I visited Germany. Before I took my flight back home, I went shopping at the TRAVEL VALUE. The salesgirl told me that I could claim the tax refund if I consumed more than 25 Euros. I was surprised because I thought all products I bought at the tax-free shops are tax free. I bought some bottles of perfume and then she gave me a tax refund cheque. She told me to get the cheque stamped at the customs and then she gave me my tax refund in cash. I noticed that many travelers didn’t know about the tax refund.

My understanding is that the products in the duty free shops inside the arport already excludes VAT, am I wrong?
