Hello all, I may be moving to Xian soon, and I was wondering how Americans, specifically if we are Jewish, are recepted. Granted, I have experienced people that do not like Jews here in America, but I just wanted to know how people in Xian would feel? Thank you!

One of my former teachers in Xi'an was from England and she is a jewish , and we respected her very much. Overall, Chinese treat foreigners very friendly and respect their religions, you don't need to worry about it.

As a foreigner teaching in Xi'an for the past year, I can say no problems at all. There is no reason I could think of that you would discuss your religion unless it was something that you wanted to talk about. Even then it would be treated with respect. The only negative comments I have heard here are against Japanese, which is quite widespread (unfortunately). So, as long as you're not Japanese/Jewish, I think you'll be fine ;)

Generally speaking, people in China are very friendly. And it is not that easy for us to tell who is American or British or Jew. In China Jewish people are respected in a sense. We call people good at business Chinese Jewish. Enjoy your time in Xian. If you accept and respect others, you are sure to be accepted and respected.
