How long I can stay in China with my wife?

guestSimo Hi all,

I am from Italy, and I plan to stay with my wife in Shanghai. She is working there, but I am afraid that I cannot find a proper job there. So probably I will only stay there learning Chinese Mandarin, and getting understanding about Chinese culture.

Anyone knows how long I can apply for the visa staying in Shanghai? For me, the longer the better. Your feedback will be highly appreciated!!!

GUEST6783 Will you learn Chinese in an university or just find a tutor to teach you? If you plan to study in college, you should apply for a X type (X1 for more than 180 days duration of stay and X2, less than 180 days).

GUESTNOW_IN_... Apply for Temporary Resident Permit For Foreigners , although it takes some running around and hoops to jump through, you can get one for upto 5 years with no entry/exit or maximum stay limitations (like normal visas).

I got a 2 year one. Total cost including permit and medical was RMB1000 (approx)

Actually I didn't plan to study in a university, because I would like to learn it in daily life by spending time with local people and get more understanding about the culture.
