I am looking for a prepaid SIM card for surfing (especially maps and translation): - I will stay for 10 days, so 500MB will be enough - I have an iphone 5 (german), so the system needs to match european systems - I'm going to travel to Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai so the card should work in all the cities - I need the card for surfing; calls is a plus, but there is no need for - I'm on a budget What are my options? Where can I buy the SIM card (my trip starts in HongKong)? What can you recommend? How much is the card? Thank you very much for your help/experience

Jen,

HK and mainland China have different sim cards. It's too expensive to use mainland Chinese sim card in HK or vice versa. According to what I know, wifi service is very convenient in the public areas, shopping malls, hotels etc. If you stay very shortly in HK, I don't think it's good to buy a HK sim card there.

When you come to PRC, you might buy a sim card according to your cellphone mode (CDMA, WCDMA or GSM). If your iphone supports CDMA, you can buy from China Telecom. If it supports WCDMA, you can buy it from China Unicom. GSM is compatible with China Unicom.
