Chinese Hotel Security Deposits: How to handle them
Mar 24, 2014 21:52
guest19796 I understand that Chinese hotels expect a security deposit when you check into the hotel. Would someone be able to tell me generally how much this is? What is this security deposit called in Chinese? I've heard that some people had issues with security deposits. If I put down a large deposit on my credit card, do I ask for the imprint of my credit card when I check out? There were a few horror stories about how some hotels actually took the money and customers had difficulty getting their money back because they signed off on the security deposit. I also worry about having to carry around a lot of money to pay for my hotel room in hotels that only accept Chinese credit cards. Would it be smarter to pay online with ctrip or elong? Would that take the worry out of it? Does anyone have any other pointers on check in and check out of Chinese hotels? Thanks.

GUEST8I953 GUEST19796,

Usually, the customer needs to pay one night room rate as deposit. Some hotels require 1.5 times one night room rate as deposit. In fact, you can negotiate with the hotel on how much deposit you should pay them if you plan to pay the deposit in cash.

It will be much convenient if you have a credit card. When you check in, a certain amount of money in your credit card will be frozen. It won't be used to pay the room rates. After you check out, your money will be free in a few days.
