Going from a Student Visa to Work Visa While in Beijing?

MYTABLE1 Points: Join Date: May 26, 2014 Status: offline	I will be a student at in Beijing for 8 weeks departing for China in June. I have been accepted by World Teach to teach English to students once my language program in Beijing is complete. But I won't have my teaching assignment until July---and by then I will already be in Beijing under my student Visa. I don't want to return to NY to obtain a work visa. Is there somewhere in Beijing that I can go to apply for a work visa? I will be teaching somewhere in the Hunan province. Can I go somewhere to my teaching location to obtain a work visa? Or can I go to Hong Kong to obtain my work visa? I am a United States citizen. Thanks.

GUEST78783	I am afraid that you have no choice but get back to NY to apply for it. It's unlikely that you can change your X type to Z in Beijing because the company you will work for is not located in Beijing. The applicants who apply in HK must provide their HK resident status. I don't think you have one.

Beijing, or any city municipality in China no longer can convert F or L to Z.

They used to by this step:
Convert F or L to 2 month RP
then convert to Work Permit/RP without the need for the Z in the passport.

Once your school submits details to Chinese government for your work permit, they will then get accepted, then they will send you "Invitation Letter from Duly Authorized Unit" with your name, company name, passport number. And another sheet saying Please ______________ in Hong Kong.
