please advice if my wife can apply for a dependent visa along with my student visa. or she must wait till i get to china and within 30 days I get my resident permit and on basis of that she will be able to get a dependent visa?

thank you.all your comments are welcome at earliest as I have very less time to apply for visas.

GUEST8984 She can apply for the S2 type together with you. She needn't wait until you get your resident permit. Personally, I suggest she applies for the S2 type directly. If she applies a L type, it will be difficult for her to change it into S2 type in China.

At the Chinese embassy, you can apply for an X visa and your wife can apply for a S1 visa by providing necessary documents. Within 30 days after entering into China, at Public Security Bureau, you need to have X visa changed to a 1-year Residence permit for study. And your wife can get a 1-year Residence permit as student's family member.

Dear friend.thank you for your valueable input. Can you plz tell me if the info is true as many people off hand are telling me that for a S1 visa for spouse of a student visa holder, the student should first have a resident permit and basis on that the spouse can apply for S1 visa or else she will get only a tourist visa. Thanks.waiting for your reply.

Hi, it's true that resident permit is required for S1 and S2 application. It can be acquired after the applicant changes his X1 type into resident permit within one month after he/she arrives in China. So you may come to China first. Once you acquire the resident permit, you can send your wife copies of your passport and resident permit.

I was told that people in the same situation like you and your wife can apply together. A guy said that he did it successfully though the whole application process is very difficult.
